A true symbol for people in Bilbao, work of the architect Cesar Azcarate, it is the most modern stadium in the country.  Inaugurated (in its first phase of construction) on 16 September 2013 and replaces the old San Mames.

It is used primarily by Athletic Club, although it has other complementary uses, namely, as a sports innovation centre and medical sports centre, an underground athletics track and a municipal sports centre. Furthermore, it will be used for large-scale concerts.
